A trip to the Organic store

Location
Fresh From The Farm is a small store located at 350 Donlands Ave. They are partners with the Ontario’s Amish and Mennonite farmers to provide the best quality, organic and drug-free food.

Where it comes from?
All the slaughter meats have been personally inspected and approved by the government. Poultry, pork, and eggs come from farms around the Floradale area and the beef comes from a farm near Crosshill, Kitchener and Waterloo.

I’ve also asked them about their eggs comparing to the regular eggs bought in supermarkets. They said that it came from the Floradale area. Although it is not certified in Omega-3, the chicken had been raised in it free-ranged farm and still had Omega-3 qualities.

What are they fed?
The beef is fed hay, corn, and soybean, pasture grass in summer and little bit of oats & barley when the cattle are very young. Pigs are raised on corn and at times a bit of barley. The chickens eat flax, barley, corn, and soybeans. The lambs are given barley, corn, some oats, and a bit of hay.

How are they raised?
The beef cattle are outside on pasture land all summer, and in the winter are in large pens where they have plenty of room and thick straw bedding. The pigs, while not outside, are in large pens where they have plenty of room to roam. The chickens are not in cages, but in large rooms where there have lots of room to run around.

Products
I have purchased 1litre milk from that location, which had been certified by Ecocert Canada and the Organic milk taste a lot richer and very smooth compared to regular milk from the supermarkets. I also purchased a 375g of Honey that is unpasteurized that had been shipped from Milkbank Ontario from Bauman Apiaries and it taste really amazing. Bauman Apiaries product taste way better then Billybee’s Pure Natural Honey.

Fresh From The Farm has Roaster chicken in which it can be use to bake in the oven. Their “roasters” chicken, which they’ve been fed no hormones or drugs, are considered the nicest and tastiest for eating.
